Content technology and innovation

Our Content Technology and Innovation team delivers high-quality content to homes, customer devices, businesses and commercial partners across our European markets. With over 2500 colleagues from around the world, we combine our strategic insights, engineering know-how and operational excellence to use the most innovative technologies to create and distribute our award-winning content.

The Content Protection Platforms & Operations team within CT&I manage and support many core systems and platforms that underpin our Sky+ HD and Sky Q platforms in the UK and ROI, as well as the Sky Go and Sky Glass provisioning platforms across the Sky Group. Responsibilities include managing customer entitlements, device activations and access criteria rules associated to Sky content for both linear and VOD. This passionate team are instrumental in the delivery of many of Sky's new products and propositions to deliver an excellent customer experience.

  • Lead our Content Protection DevOps and work with Development teams to assess and identify the optimal technical strategy, architecture, and infrastructure solutions. You will also provide cloud support and interact with developers and clients to improve existing solutions at scale at optimal performance and cost.

  • Manage and maintain uninterrupted operations from the beginning to the end of the Content Protection software life cycle and work with relevant teams to deliver secure, stable, resilient systems with cutting edge alerting and monitoring, and forward-thinking capacity planning built into the design.

  • Provide Technical and Managerial leadership for a team of skilled DevOps Engineers, covering technical and professional development as well as shaping the overall Content Protection Roadmap.

  • Work as a bridge between Technical teams and Managerial team, specifying and leading the SRE elements of current and future projects in the Content Protection team.

  • Ensure that DevOps standards and processes are implemented and contribute actively to their continuous improvement, including solutions for system monitoring, process change, testing, and analysis.

  • Define and drive the adoption of industry standard processes such as Automated Testing, CI/CD pipeline code branching, promotion tools and have intermediate code promotions skills.

  • Provide input and operational guidance, to define and automate the validation of Non-functional requirements, Service Level Objectives, Service Level Indicators, including all requirements to ensure the solution is fully compatible with Sky's standards and policies

What you'll bring

  • Experience of leading and managing a DevOps/SRE function in a complex system landscape with a mixture of cutting edge cloud systems as well as on prem legacy systems.

  • Leadership skills with a strong bias for Technical leadership and the ability to drive, support and challenge technical solutions to complex business issues.

  • Strong communications skills with the ability to actively engage and build strong relationships with business stakeholders, Engineers, Scrums, Project Managers, Vendors and partners - supporting with the planning and estimation phases of roadmap items; providing technical guidance where required.

  • Ability to summarise complex technical information to a non-technical audience as well as lead and define technical led workstreams.

  • Experience of working within an Agile environment following Agile development practices and familiarity with Agile service management within a DevOps culture with a desire to promote the DevOps mindset within the team. Also, have an expertise in building automated solutions, and the mindset to reduce toil.

  • A technical background with experience of working with SQL, building scripts in UNIX shell, Perl, Python, or similar scripting languages.

  • Expertise in Amazon AWS Cloud Administration which includes services like: EC2, Lambda, S3, Dynamo DB, VPC, RDS (i.e. PostGres) , IAM, Route 53, Cloud Front, Cloud Watch, Cloud Trail, Cloud Formation and Security Groups.

  • Familiarity with other cloud technologies like Cloud Foundry, Kubernetes, docker, Ansible. Hands on experience on developing and executing Perl, SHELL, BASH, Python, SQL and UNIX scripts.
