Location and Hybrid working

The role can be based in either Bristol or London, with some travel between the two locations when required. Our approach to hybrid working is still emergent but you should expect to be in office up to three days per week with home-working available for the remaining days.

Our Mission

We're on a mission to build the bank of the future, and we need your help to do it. We're redefining what a bank is from the inside out. Our technology and our culture are changing to craft a true engineering-led organisation.

Become part of our diverse team, and you'll experience a rare opportunity to make a difference to the lives of millions through our brands like Halifax, Bank of Scotland, Lloyds, and Scottish Widows (among others).

Our flat teams will encourage and empower you to make decisions, build positive relationships, and deliver a meaningful difference to our customers, colleagues, and communities.

Our mentors will nurture your talent and encourage you to further develop yourself and your career.

About the Customer Data Services (CDS) Lab

We're the team that looks after the customer data for the whole of Lloyds Banking Group. Our mission is to make this data available for the right purpose with the appropriate confidentiality and always ensuring a phenomenal engineering experience, performances, resilience, and integrity.

The systems we support, underpin almost everything we do as Lloyds Banking Group. We maintain these systems with the highest standard, with an ambition to take ownership of the operational support 24/7 using SRE principles.

About you

Generally, you're comfortable in a technical leadership role, blending both solid leadership experience and technical expertise.

We're looking for an outstanding collaborator that can drive a strategy and key initiatives forward, while being an advocate for excellence, culture, and sustainability.

You'll support the growth and mentor junior colleagues, while helping shape the culture of the team.

More specifically we'd like you to have much of the following, but it's ok if you don't check every box:

  • Outstanding interpersonal and communications skills with ability to communicate and engage with non-technical and senior stakeholders

  • Hands on Software Engineering background with experience in building large scale applications in Java, using a fairly broad set of tools, techniques, and platforms, including cloud hosting.

  • Experience working with container environments in particular Docker, Kubernetes and Helm (e.g. GCP, Azure, AWS), ideally GCP.

  • Awareness of security considerations and security tools used to integrate with the build pipeline covering OWASP top 10

  • Passionate about driving a modern and inclusive culture

  • Some experience in Operations and support, ideally following SRE principles

  • Able to listen, reflect and respect the views of others as well as being able to communicate your own opinion but you're not strongly tied to it

  • A growth mindset, who encourages, mentor and motivates the teams around you

  • Ability to contribute to defining objectives to continuously improve and measure metrics

We deeply value diversity and are proudly committed to being an equal opportunity employer.

Company

We’re creating an organisation that attracts, retains and develops the best talent in the industry, and one that openly embraces diversity too. But more than that – we want to be a great place to work. We invest in our people, offering the best training and coaching, and by encouraging them to contribute to our leading corporate and social responsibility practices. We offer flexible working hours and days, under our Work Options scheme. This means that you can have a challenging and rewarding career, and still have an ideal work/life balance.

Flexible working is at the heart of our strategy. We’re re-imagining where, when, and how our people work, with new approaches designed to meet the ever-changing needs of customers and colleagues. These include increasing our use of remote-working tools and technology, as well as placing less reliance on a 9-to-5 mindset. For many of our office-based colleagues, we work in hybrid ways which involves spending at least two days per week or 40% of their time at one of our office sites.
