Budgeting guide launched for new parents

Date: 10:52pm, 20 Feb 2008

Find it hard to work out how much money you can get in benefits and tax credits? The Financial Services Authority has just made it a lot easier.
A new guide, the Parents' Guide to Money has been launched by the FSA and is to be distributed to all pregnant women by midwives. The guide is designed to be user friendly and gives information on all the financial aspects of having a baby, including budgeting, tax credits and the Child Trust Fund.
The guide also includes an interactive CD Rom which allows parents to input their financial details so they can work out a feasible budget or how much they are eligible for in tax credits and child benefit.
The guide is made up of 12 leaflets divided into seven sections. The sections cover: countdown to becoming a parent, budgeting, benefits, work, savings, borrowings and first years.
The CD rom helps you work out issues ranging from the cost of having a child, debt, return to work and tax credits.
The FSA says: "The Parents' Guide to money is designed to help new parents at an expensive and stressful time in their lives, giving them the tools they need to review and organise their finances."
