What a Day!

Who needs an alarm clock when you’ve got children! Wake at 6.45 am to my teen whistling at our parrot (or “psycho bird” as we fondly call him!) Minutes later my six year old appears, climbs in beside me and switches on children’s telly. Huddle deep under the covers trying to muffle out the noises and catch extra sleep. No chance!

After a hug and my face stroked (a daily ritual which elicits yells and screams of “get back in that bed,” if I should arise before her) drag myself downstairs, opening curtains and switching off lights – teenagers have no concept of electricity prices! Psycho bird, shrieks and whistles at me as I rush around making breakfasts, packed lunches and nipping out to feed the cat and try to shove some ear drops into her ear! Let out the troupe of girls who walk to school with my eldest, switch on radio for psycho, then dash to school then work.

At work we’re moving offices, but caretakers tell us that our new office companions don’t want us there. Get into new office to find they have put themselves in our space. Move in with no computers or phones, determined to have our area – this is war!

I have spent the beginning of the morning trying to create space for myself in my bed and now it seems I have to do the same at work! Spend the rest of the day unpacking stuff and tidying it all away – makes me think of all of the tidying and cleaning I could be doing at home – still isn’t that what weekends are for? That’s if I can squeeze it in with the shopping, ironing and washing. Still at least at work I am being paid to do it.

Have your say

Sounds like a day in my life, although I have no psycho bird (thank goodness!) I have three rather noisey cats waiting for their breakfast as well as two hungry tired girls, one aged two and one aged 6, who never wants to go to school but actually is quite jolly once we walk through the school gate!!!!
