Good news for working mums

I have been spending a lot of time on the internet this week, supposedly to Christmas shop, but in reality just getting distracted and generally browsing.

Stumbled across some great articles though, which I thought I would share. Firstly being a busy working mum is actually good for you! Someone somewhere has done some research into this, and found that you are less likely to be obese and also generally enjoy better health. This is great news! Go working mums!! Plus professional women apparently live longer. Also great news - plenty of time for the travelling when kids have flown the nest (Nepal, South America, Australia - I intend to do it all…..)

I also read in a magazine somewhere recently that working in an office with other women supports your social needs in the modern world. A chance to share experiences, hopes and fears, a true support network for the modern woman. I can understand this - I love going into the office and seeing my friends, or having meetings and (although we do talk shop most of the time) swapping stories, tips or generally having a laugh (cackle) too. And socially it is great - lots of the ladies I work with are much younger than me, but still invite me to the pub occasionally which is nice of them.

And apparently swearing at work can reduce stress. This is also great news! I mean, we can't let rip with the naughty words at home in front of the sprogs can we? But apparently using bad language at work can reduce stress and even boost team spirit!! (use with caution though! Not advocating swearing at the boss!)

The final bit of information I saw this week, which I thought was fantastic, was that female owned businesses are expected to be the biggest growth sector in the next 10 years. I have also read a lot about women becoming entrepreneurs (or mumpreneurs!) due to the fact that it allows them to fit their working lives around their family - and I think all of this can only mean a positive boost in opportunities for the working mum who wants employment too.

I mean, It's got to be good working for someone who understands the challenges you face, don't you think?

Have your say

Only me again - but had to share another one that I found - apparently we do half the amount of housework than women did 30 years ago. Only 4 hours a week compared to the 8 or so that our mothers did. That's got to be a good thing!! (might explain the sate of my house though!)
