I'm a mum of 3 kids under 10 and have just given up a great corporate part time position to start my own business. Am I mad ? No, just severly time pressured - and that's working for a flexible firm who have a great attitude to working parents. I found it just too hard (I did it for 10 years nearly!) In the end I wanted to work for myself so that I could spend more time with the kids, do the school run and homework as well as generate income that I could ultimately control. My business is web-based and has just launched - I feel proud to have made the jump away from the corporate world - even though I still get scary mad looks from people when I tell them what I have given up!! The article is right - you need loads of determination and nerves of steel - as well as a great idea, of course!
