All good suggestions. Unfortunately, the microwave plug is right behind the microwave so you have to pull the whole thing out to unplug and we use it quite often. Plus would have to reprogramme the clock every time. Eventually, I figure, he will move on to something else...something potentially more dangerous, no doubt. The problem is I am still working at 9pm! Still, as you say, it's only for a few more years and I'm pretty used to it by now. Very good to know someone is thinking of practical suggestions, though!
