Meet one of our flexible workers... Southampton-based senior manager Marion Gibbs, who works a flexible four-day week in our Tax service line, has no doubt where she would be today if it wasn’t for Deloitte’s approach to flexibility and choice.
Explains Marion: “If I wasn’t able to work part-time and flexibly, I doubt I would’ve been able to remain with the firm. And that would be a shame because, as one of the longer-serving members of staff in this office, I have a lot of strong relationships with my Tax clients – and a lot of knowledge that’s particularly valuable to them.”
Marion, who currently arranges her four-day week to fit around school holidays and other parental responsibilities, likes to be flexible in return. “So, if there’s an urgent deadline and I’m unable to be in the office, I’ll complete the work elsewhere, or return to the office later if I need to. It’s all about give and take.”
Marion says her success when it comes to balancing commitments inside and outside the office is down to the high level of support she receives from colleagues.
“They’re excellent, particularly my assistant – who understands which calls need to be passed onto me immediately when I’m out of the office, and which ones aren’t so urgent. "Meanwhile, all of my key clients have my mobile number, which they’ll ring if something urgent comes up.”
