Thames Valley Police is the largest non-metropolitan police force in the country, covering 2,200 square miles of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. We patrol 196 miles of motorway and serve a population of over 2.1 million.
Over 4,100 Police Officers serve the people of Thames Valley, supported by over 600 Volunteer Police Officers (special constables), 500 Police Community Support Officers, 2,500 police staff and 650 Police Support Volunteers. They all work together to keep the Thames Valley safe.
Our style of neighbourhood policing emphasises community involvement and partnership working in tackling both the causes of crime and the symptoms. That is why we work closely with a wide range of community and criminal justice organisations to increase public safety, deter offenders and be tough on crime and criminals.
As one of the largest employers in the region, we place strong emphasis on recruitment and there are many different roles which are explained on our website: www.thamesvalley.police.uk
Being a Volunteer Police Officer or Police Support Volunteer is a great way of giving something back to your community and we are particularly interested in hearing from people who are keen to pursue either of these avenues.
We, in Thames Valley Police, have a very clear aim:
‘Working in partnership to make our community safer’
We believe that providing a high quality of service to the public is not simply about what we do, it’s equally about the way we do it.
Our values are shared by all members of our organisation and are the foundations that underpin the delivery of our aim and objectives.
To foster the trust and confidence of our community, we will:
- Treat everyone fairly and with respect
- Act with courage and integrity
- Take pride in delivering a high quality service and keeping our promises
- Engage, listen and respond
- Learn from experience and always seek to improve.
We are fully committed to supporting all staff, eliminating all forms of discrimination and harassment, whilst promoting equality and diversity. We strive to be an employer of choice for all sections of the community as we recognise that having a diverse workforce makes our service more approachable and relevant to our communities.
Thames Valley Police is committed to a policy of equality of opportunity and recognises that flexible working practices offer benefits both for the organisation and for members of staff. As an organisation, a commitment to such working practices can assist in recruiting and retaining skilled staff, meeting service demands and controlling staff costs. For individuals, there is the advantage that work can be combined with other commitments such as caring responsibilities, study or phased retirement.
We have staff associations and support networks that provide independent support and advice as well as Occupational Health and Welfare support.
We have an extensive range of interlinked staff benefits. They cover personal and professional development, financial advice (including pensions); wellbeing and occupational health; discounts and concessions such as child care; bike loans and shopping discounts.
Child Care Vouchers
These can be used to pay for all types of registered childcare for children aged up to 15 years. This includes child minders, nurseries, nannies, play schemes, crèches, before and after school clubs, music lessons and holiday schemes.
Cycle To Work Scheme
The cycle to work scheme is aimed at encouraging people to use cycles for all or part of their journeys to and from work. It’s an approved salary sacrifice scheme which means you won’t pay tax or national insurance contributions on the amount you have sacrificed.
Thames Valley Police will be returning to Workingmums.co.uk LIVE London on March 27th. Click here to register for free.
