Telefónica UK (O2)

Telefónica UK (O2)

We are Telefónica. You’ll know us in Europe as O2. We’re part of one of the biggest communications businesses in the world. And we’re continuously evolving. Helping to shape the future in a changing world. With a team of over 250,000 people across 25 countries, there are no limits to your horizon.

Working for Telefónica

Life at Telefónica puts you in touch with all sorts of new things. One way we recognise each other’s hard work is through Fanclub. A place online, where people can tell their colleagues what a good job they’re doing. If you or your team is nominated, we’ll make a big song and dance about it at our annual Superfans event. A big, glittering awards party with celebrity presenters and lots of nice surprises.

Of course, there are lots of ways we can say thank you. So it’s not just about money and rewards. It’s about really listening to people. For example, our Shadow Board is made up of customer facing people. They meet the O2 board and discuss the issues that affect us all. Then there’s our Bright Sparks team. They’re here to listen to your ideas and make sure the best ones see the light of day.

And we often run competitions and give away VIP tickets, to places like The O2, O2 Academy venues , Twickenham Stadium and MEN Arena

Diversity & Inclusion

Here at Telefónica, we believe in opening up the world to our people. And we do this by making sure everyone has the same opportunities to grow and succeed.

And now that our business is extending across the globe, developing a diverse workforce is becoming more important than ever. That’s why we’re always exploring ways to help every colleague make the most of their talents through initiatives such as:

-Fair and equal promotion and pay policies

-Transparent recruitment processes

-Individual career development

-Flexible working models that recognise family commitments

-Ensuring a healthy work/life balance

We don’t just recognise that everyone is different. We see these differences as a competitive advantage. By recognising the strengths of different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives, Telefónica will be even more successful. Everyone here is responsible for making sure people feel respected and included.

By recruiting and developing people from the widest possible talent pool, we can gain an insight into different markets. Be more creative. Anticipate customer needs and become even more successful. So we’ll always strive to create a productive environment. One that represents and responds to different cultures and groups. And where everyone has an equal chance to succeed.

Of course, everyone talks about diversity nowadays. But it’s an area we’re genuinely looking to do more in. Whether it’s through offering prayer rooms or a Shariah pension scheme. Improving accessibility, providing extra training or helping people get back into work. Everyone has a part to play in our success. So no matter what your religion, race, age, disability or sexuality, we’ll make sure nothing stands in your way.

We also believe in opening up the world for our customers – whether that involves training our staff to recognise people’s different needs, or adapting our products and services to make them more accessible to everyone. And we’re dedicated to discovering new ways to connect people of all abilities and backgrounds to the things they love.

In 2012, we took our commitment even further by setting up the Telefónica Europe Diversity Council. Through this team we’ll keep pushing the boundaries to make our world even more inclusive – and make working for us a real adventure for people from all walks of life.

At Telefónica we are positive about disability and we have been awarded the “two ticks” disability symbol. The Equality Act 2010 is the law which bans unfair treatment and helps achieve equal opportunities in the workplace and in wider society.

On top of this is our commitment to flexible working, something we promote as a company and to our customers. Here are some videos that talk about how we tackled the challenges of flexible working that we expected during the Olympics. They talk about how our employees and how the company prepared for disruption and how flexible working is part of our culture.

Think Big Youth Movement and Think Big School Telefónica

Think Big currently connects four programmes together to create one solution – using the power of ideas and technology to transform Europe. The Think Big Youth Movement and Think Big Schools are two programmes that we are running across all our markets in Europe.

Think Big Youth Movement

The Think Big youth movement gives young people aged between 13-25 a chance to develop their own idea for making a positive change in society into a successful project with a wider impact.

With a combination of cash, training, mentoring, digital technology and a growing international network of thousands of other young leaders, this is the perfect training ground to practice the principles of entrepreneurship from an early age. Since launch, the Think Big youth movement has supported nearly 4,000 projects, all developed and run by young people with over 5,000 Telefónica Europe people volunteering and getting involved.

By 2015, we’ll have given 250,000 young people the chance to get involved and 1 million young people will benefit from the programme.

Falling within this programme is also, Think Big School, which is a new initiative aimed at giving young people of school-going age access to digital skills sessions. These sessions will be run at our workplaces by our own people and will tie closely to the wider youth movement, aiming to get young people to think about skills and entrepreneurship as early as possible. The aim is to reach 50,000 young people by 2015.

If you join Telefónica, what is in it for you?

In return for your efforts, you’ll be rewarded in typical Telefónica style: A competitive salary and benefits that you get to choose, including flexible working and childcare vouchers. Great news if you’ve got little ones, or other family commitments. And of course you can expect support, recognition and the chance to progress with us. Ready for Telefónica?
