2012 Top Employer Awards

Innovation in Flexible Working Award

To be eligible for the Innovation Award, employers should demonstrate policies which are innovative and break new ground.

Workingmums.co.uk Innovation Award

To be eligible for the Innovation in Flexible Working Award, employers should demonstrate:

Specific policies and practices related to flexible working which are truly innovative and break new ground, whether that be in a particular industry or in general. Employers should be able to demonstrate:

- What prompted the policies and any changes in practice, for instance, employee surveys, business and commercial reasons

- How they came to put the policy into effect

- Take-up and evaluation of the policies

- The business benefits of flexible working to the organisation and how these are measured.

Innovation can cover areas ranging from new forms of flexible working and making flexible working available and promoting it to all staff, including senior managers, to efforts to promote career progression for employees who work flexibly. Relevant case studies will strengthen applications.

Application Process

In order to be considered, all interested employers are required to complete an application covering key areas as outlined in the guidance above.

It is vital that employers include data that is specific and relevant to the category they choose to enter so that the judges can see why they should be considered for a specific Award. Where possible, employers should strengthen their application by including case studies which are relevant to the category applied for as well as evidence that policies are being monitored and developed, such as statistics on take-up of policies.

Employers may choose to enter more than one category. Entries should be no longer than four sides of A4 paper, but supporting evidence can be of any length. Six copies of each entry should be submitted by post.

There will be an initial screening by Workingmums.co.uk and a shortlist compiled. Shortlisted entrants will then be judged by a panel of judges that will include experts on the issues concerned. The application will be judged purely on the application form and evidence supplied – hence the need for a strong, relevant application.

The Top Employer award winner will be selected from those shortlisted for all the other categories. Winners will be announced at the WorkingMums Top Employer Award ceremony in central London in November 2012.
