The TUC’s genereal secretary is to warn that women’s progress is in "grave danger" due to cuts in public spending.

According to the Press Association, Brendan Barber will tell the TUC Women’s Conference in Eastbourne today that  cuts in child benefit, maternity grants, working tax credit and housing benefit will affect women disproportionately.

He is expected to say that the cuts will "decimate" women’s employment since they make up the majority of public sector workers. "

He fears those who do find work will end up in low-paid, part-time jobs which will reinforce the gender pay gap.
