Welcome to the holidays

I  think I may have been a bit too enthusiastic about the summer holidays and that that enthusiasm has caught on and ignited in the girls who now think there is no reason to go to sleep until, oh, at least midnight. At the same time the baby has suddenly either started a growth spurt or changed his internal clock, which means he is now awake all evening. This would be no bad thing if he slept all night, but his sleep patterns during the night have not altered. All it means is that I am currently eating every meal with one hand.
We are also being visited in the late evening by big girl daughter, who claims that even when she is upstairs playing with her sister at night that she is afraid of "sound". She therefore needs to stay downstairs with us until said "sound" has gone away, ie forever. Rebel daughter has also made some late night appearances over the weekend - on Fridays she traditionally stays up late and on Saturday she felt ill and couldn't sleep because of sniffles. In the end we resorted to desperation measures with big girl daughter and she ended up sleeping in the baby's cot. Indeed, she brought in her teddy and her cup of water as if, suspiciously, she planned to take up residence. I guess at least then the cot was getting some use since the baby seems to have taken an aversion to it. He is still finding it impossible to stay asleep when flat on his back so is lying across me. He seems to sleep very comfortably in this position. The same cannot be said for his mother. Bonkers daughter continues to get up at dawn. On the up side, this means she is very tired by bedtime. You win some, you lose some.
