End of term

It's the last day of term. I feel I have groped my way towards this day for the last month or two. This week has been particularly difficult. I confess to having been late on the school run every day of the week. It's just that there is so much to remember. Yesterday daughters two and three had their last day. They needed to take a present and card for their teachers; toys to play with in class; party clothes and also presents for friends who had unexpectedly got them presents at the last minute. Curse them.
The baby has also got to take in cards after he received one from a mystery person named Sam. I admit that I know none of the names of the people in his class, but I have not noticed a Sam on the pegs. The baby's key worker did a list for me, but my partner threw that out by accident after a rant about how messy my car was [it is, but at least I didn't cause myself undue problems by pulling the handbrake out of its socket as he did this week. He has had to jam bricks behind the wheels all week to stop it sliding down our road]. I am going into the nursery today to secretly write down the names on the children's pegs. Next week I am baking mince pies for the nursery. I figure it kills two birds with one stone - it's a present for the nursery and it keeps daughters two and three busy, even if they do eat half the ingredients raw before they go into the oven.
Today daughter one completes her first term and on Saturday it's her birthday sleepover party. She wants to go to a shopping mall with her mates. On the Saturday before Christmas. She has emphasised the fact that she doesn't want her parents trailing around after her so we are going to split up and then let her and her mates walk away before we stalk them from 50 paces behind. In reality, I will probably end up trapped in Primark with her sisters and a very assertive toddler. Not exactly the peaceful holly and ivy weekend before Christmas I feel I now need.
