All I want for Christmas.....
I love Christmas, really I do. But this year I have been finding it a bit harder than usual to get into the Christmas spirit. Last year, even with a 3 month old breastfeeding baby I seemed to be less tired than I am now. I think it is the difference between working and not working, and having a cold or being healthy.
On Saturday, the day after all the snow arrived, we trudged to the station and took the train to London to eat in a restaurant with my side of the family, whom we are not seeing on Christmas day. I had organised it all and was really looking forward to it. Until 11.30pm the night before when the baby woke up and proceeded to moan, sing, play and wriggle until 3am. So after 4 hours sleep I was less excited than before at the prospect of a trip into London in freezing conditions. Still it was lovely to see everyone and we all exchanged secret santa presents (I got an awsome pair of slippers which have totally kept the cold from my draughty house off my toes).
Unfortunately the next day the baby woke with a terrible cold (probably caught from me) and so more nights of snuffling sleeplessness and wingey days have ensued, and I am worrying that it will be a tricky lead up to Christmas. I am working every day (including some hours on Christmas Eve) and really should try to clean the house before the big event - when all I will want to do is collapse once the kids are in bed. Why is it that we want a clean house in time for Christmas anyway? I'm not even having anyone round until the 27th. Oh well if something has to give......
So today I am sitting in my home office trying very hard not to lie down on the day bed behind me. It is tempting. The baby is being watched my Grandma downstairs. Firstborn is out at a friends. Coffee and satsumas (and a shedload on my to do list) are my only salvation.
Enough of the moaning - I will count my Christmas blessings. At least I am not at Kings Cross trying to get to Paris - now that really would be a barrel of laughs!
