Clegg urges faster action on tax threshold for working families
Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg gave a speech today urging the Government to act faster on reducing the tax burden on working families.
Speaking at the Resolution Foundation he said he wanted to see the Government move "further and faster" on delivering its pledge on raising the threshold at which families start paying tax to £10,000.
The Government says it plans to raise the threshold by 2015, but Clegg said families were already facing "a state of emergency".
The income tax threshold was raised to £7,475 in the 2010 Budget and the Government says it will increase this to £8,105 this year.
Mr Clegg said urgent attention needed to be focused on how the change, which would cost around £9bn, would be funded.Click here to read his full speech.
