Can I offer a pregnant woman a temporary trial contract?
Can I offer a person who is 24 weeks pregnant a temporary 12-week contract? The post is not advertised as permanent or temporary, but would be on a temporary contract to see if she was suitable but is complicated by the fact she is pregnant.
This contract would take her up till almost her due date. If she is good enough how will you keep her on? You might need her to pay maternity leave or at least give her the time off.
I would advise against offering anyone a temporary contract to see if they are good enough. The contract length should be agreed prior to advertising a role then a probationary period written into the contract.
