Can my manager stop my husband and I going on holiday together?

My husband and I both work for the same company. In the past we have taken our annual leave together without a problem, but our manager has now put restrictions in place to state that we can only have only a few days of annual leave together, and only one week at a time. Is this allowed?

Annual Leave

I’m afraid the employer can do this. As long as an employer makes it possible for an employee to take all of their annual leave entitlement during the leave year which it falls due, then they are perfectly entitled to dictate when this leave can be taken and how.

However, they can’t implement anything which would be discriminatory on grounds of any of the protected characteristics and they should be able to justify their approach based on a business need. They may be able to do this quite easily as many employers can’t sustain two employees always being absent at the same time and/or for a prolonged period of time.
