Only 2% of people working in childcare are men and a new documentary series for channel 4 aims to highlight the issue and show how important men are in children’s upbringing, but it needs your help.

Channel 4 is asking Workingmums.co.uk readers if they can nominate their partners to take part in the documentary.

The series will not only explore why so few men choose to work  in nurseries, but will also look at men who want to be better fathers themselves and have no idea about what it takes. Elena Mourey of Loveproductions, which is making the series, says: "We hope to empower a nation of men to spend more time with their own kids and even inspire some to consider the childcare profession."

The idea of the show is to select four men to work in a real life nursery for three weeks, under the careful supervision of the nursery staff.

The men will be carefully selected and undergo extensive checks, say the series’ producers.

– They will be keen to learn more about childcare, but perhaps don’t know where to turn to. They may already be dads who want to be more hands-on, or would like to learn how to be better dads.
– Perhaps they are about to become dads for the first time and feel nervous about their new role, or would like the chance to learn the ropes.
– Maybe their own father was ‘hands-off’ when they were growing up and they don’t want to make the same mistake.
– Or, quite simply, they may be men who are considering a career in childcare themselves.

The series aims to show men that childcare is a tough job, yet a very rewarding one, suitable for both men and women.

The production company plans to film for three weeks beginning at the end of February, but they need to secure their contributors before Christmas, or by mid-January at the very latest.
