everywoman has unveiled the finalists in its 20th anniversary awards for women entrepreneurs.

Nineteen women have been selected as the 2022 finalists for the everywoman Awards for women entrepreneurs.

Now in their 20th year, the Awards, in association with growth capital investor BGF, celebrate female entrepreneurs from all walks of life, providing a platform for them to share their achievements, challenges and stories of success.

This year’s entrants have been whittled down from nearly a thousand entries and span diverse industries – from pharmaceutical and medical businesses to spa chains and hair products, through to IT software and package design, from career coaching and construction machinery through to biodegradable wet wipes, early learning bibs and pregnancy activewear.

The 2022 finalists were selected by judges including Daina Spedding (BGF), Chrissie Rucker OBE (The White Company), Panni Morshedi (Beauty Pie), Rosaleen Blair (Alexander Mann Solutions), Sam Smith (previously FinnCap), Annoushka Ducas (Annoushka Jewellery), Helen Pattinson (Montezuma’s Chocolate), Roni Savage (Jomas Associates) and Melissa Odabash.

everywoman cites statistics showing some of the barriers faced by women entrepreneurs. For instance, women, on average, have 20% lower confidence than men in their capabilities to start a business while women in the UK launch with, on average, 53% less capital than their male counterparts and male entrepreneurs are 86% more likely to be funded by venture capital. However, research also shows that women are overall about 10% less likely to report a business closure than men.

everywoman says that if women were encouraged to start and scale new businesses at the same rate as men in the UK, it could contribute £250 billion to the British economy and that the Awards platform that potential.  It says 76% of former Award winners say that their everywoman Award has positively impacted their business and 63% say it improved their personal and professional confidence.

The award winners will be announced at a live ceremony on 8th December 2022

The 2022 finalists are:

 ARTEMIS – awarded to the most inspirational woman running a business trading from 18 months to three years:
o Abigail Read, Merwave, from Newcastle
o Claire Gleave, Natal Active, from Cheltenham
o Maureen Robson Norman, whyaye!, from Newcastle

 ATHENA – sponsored by BGF – awarded to the most inspirational woman running a business trading from six to nine years:
o Flavia Araujo-Rankin, London Medical Laboratory, from London
o Rachel Wood, Bibado Ltd, from Kenilworth

o Suzy Dean, AddIn365, from Watford

 HERA – sponsored by Saunderson House – awarded to the most inspirational woman running a business trading for 10 years or more:
o Becky Woodhouse, PURE Spa & Beauty, from Edinburgh
o Elizabeth Colleran, Duvaley, from Dewsbury
o Gill Riley, GGR Group, from Haddenham
o Kate Shaw, Innovative Trials Ltd, from Letchworth

 DEMETER – sponsored by Nutriment – awarded to the most inspirational woman running a business trading from three to five years:
o Ellenor McIntosh, Twipes, from London
o Rebecca Crawforth, Navy Professional, from Yorkshire
o Umaima Ahmad, 52 North Health, from Cambridge

 GAIA – awarded to the most inspirational female founder who has combined strong community benefit with a sustainable business model:
