Finding mentors for starting a business: ask the expert

I have a great desire to open my own cafe and also to start a company that allows me to sell my art craft work. But I’m having difficulty in figuring out how to get financial help. Could I get help with my business plan and advice from mentors? How can I find them? I live in Worthing, West Sussex.

You can get help for your business plan from qualified accountants, business plan consultants and business mentors with relevant experience. A good business plan will help you to secure funding.

1.You can either work with a private mentor who you may have to pay
2. join a government-funded mentoring programme.

Both types of mentors can be found at your local chamber of commerce or other business networking groups. You can also visit for a list mentoring organisations.

I would like to start my own bespoke jewellery business so I can work from home and be there for my 2 children when they finish school as childcare is expensive and I don’t have the support. I have tools and stock of my own as I make things for friends and family, but to get my own market stall I am having difficulty with the legal side of things like insurances. I know I need public liability and other things, but don’t seem to be able to get an insurance deal that I can understand and I don’t know if I pay for a full year up front or small payments thought the year. I hope you can help.
