Flexible work proposal rejected: ask the expert

My colleague and I have been part time for seven years. We work with a man who works full time. We were told there was only room for one full timer. We proposed sharing the job over six days, three days each. This was rejected. Another person has been hired recently to do a job we could do. Where do we stand?

It does sound like this is unfair and possibly discriminatory if you have been covering a full time role on a job share basis for a number of years with no previous problems.

I suggest that you do an appeal against your redundancy on the basis that your selection is an act of sex discrimination.  You should probably see a solicitor to discuss whether you have a potential claim thereafter.
