Rhythm Time background
Managing Director Kathy Doolan studied music at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and went on to become Head of Music at Lochend Secondary School in Glasgow.
After having her first child, Kathy wanted to run her own business that would fit round her family but it had to combine her two passions, music and children. Thus Rhythm Time was born.
The business has gone from strength to strength and Rhythm Time now has a strong reputation, with many franchises all over the country. The high quality of the classes has been successfully replicated in many areas of the UK – with well over 10,000 children attending classes weekly.

How does the job fit around your family life?
Brilliantly! The classes are term-time and within school hours so I walk my son (who’s 5 years old) to school in the morning and collect him at 3pm. I’m at home to help with homework and can get involved with after-school activities too! My husband works shifts, so by doing my admin work at home, at a time that suits, we are able to do lots more as a family on weekdays when he has a day off.
Do you advertise?
I advertise in lots of different ways. I give out postcards to mums when I am out and about, display posters in various venues and do lots of online advertising too! Head Office provide all the tools you need to market your franchise in the best way.
Do you get support/training?
Absolutely. When I started my franchise I had the chance to train with the founder of Rhythm Time, and alongside other new franchisees. The team at Rhythm Time Head Office are incredibly supportive and are there to help with all aspects of my business, so I never feel alone and the network of franchisees keeps in constant touch, to share experiences, letting us learn from each other.
Why would you recommend this opportunity to other mums?
I would most definitely recommend it to others! Running a Rhythm Time franchise is fantastic. You can run a business of your own, around your family, while also having the backing and expertise of the Rhythm Time team. The product you are selling is brilliant and you can be so proud of it! You get the chance to do a fun job while meeting lovely mums and little ones. I absolutely recommend it!
