Harry Marsland, a former marketing and advertising professional, became a Vistage Chair after learning about the organisation and its benefits.

He joined Vistage in 2016 and underwent training that he found to be incredibly educational and impressive. Despite facing challenges such as having no business contacts in the North East and competition from other chairs, Harry focused on his core belief that being a member of Vistage should be a badge of honour for business leaders. He followed the training diligently and successfully built his first group within four and a half months.

In March 2017, he launched his first group meeting, which quickly fostered strong bonds and a supportive environment. Impressed by the success of his initial group, Harry decided to build a Key group, which clicked even quicker than the first one. Harry describes being a Vistage Chair as the most rewarding work he has ever done, utilising his business knowledge and interpersonal skills within a proven structure. He emphasises the importance of humility and openness in Vistage members and explains that being a chair involves facilitating discussions rather than providing all the answers.

Harry credits Vistage’s formula and community for the foundation of his groups, while adding his personal touch and continuous learning from other Chairs. Reflecting on his Vistage journey, Harry advises new chairs to trust the process, follow the training, and believe in the value that Vistage offers to business leaders. He also highlights a personal success storey where a member discovered their true aspirations during a group meeting and ultimately secured a promotion to the position they desired. Overall, Harry finds immense joy and excitement in being a Vistage Chair and cherishes the opportunity to support and learn from fellow business leaders.
