We are looking for 4 Adult Support Workers to join our Mallow Crescent Team. We have 2 full time posts for 36 hours and 2 part time posts for 18 hours per week. When applying please specify if you are interested in the full or part time post.

If working full time you will earn £19,875 and £9,937.50 for part time hours. You will be based at 25 to 30 Mallow Crescent, Burpham, Guildford Surrey GU4 7BU. We require people to have a driving licence and be willing to drive the site cars. Shift work is including every other weekend and some sleep in duties, for which there is an extra payment.

About the Role

Mallow Crescent comprises of six modern houses in Burpham (near Guildford) providing a range of services for people with learning disabilities including supported living and short breaks. We support and enable people with daily living tasks, personal care, and access to leisure pursuits, education, skills development and social networks within the local community, using a person centred approach. This is an interesting and rewarding role.

We are looking for people with motivation and commitment to improving people’s lives and a desire to empower and promote independence. An interest and passion for supporting people with learning difficulties is essential and experience would be beneficial, but Surrey County Council’s mandatory training and additional specific training will be provided.

You don’t need any formal qualifications to apply for Support Worker positions; you simply need to have the right qualities:

  • Understanding of sensitivity to the needs of people with learning disabilities.
  • A willingness to encourage and support people with learning disabilities to access activities and facilities in the community.
  • Respect for the cultures and beliefs of the people we support.
  • Resilience and emotional intelligence to handle challenging situations. Every day is different and can throw up its own challenges and pressures. You need to be adaptable but able to follow guidelines with a consistent, person centred approach.
  • A flexible attitude, both to the level of care required by the people we support as well as the time requirements of the role.

As a Support Worker, your responsibilities will include:

  • Working with and supporting Adults with learning difficulties to create positive outcomes and promote independence.
  • Direct practical interactions with service users; including cooking, personal care and engaging with the wider community.
  • Organising the shift, communicating with colleagues to plan and coordinate activities.
  • Engagement in planning, implementation and delivery of care plans.
  • Working in partnership with other agencies.
  • Report writing and attending/contributing to reviews as required.
  • Ensuring all your training requirements are met and recorded accurately.

Training

Our homes for Adults with learning difficulties are inspected on a regular basis and we are very proud of the quality of our supported living services for Adults within Surrey. As a result, we have invested in our homes and staff and plan to continue this, in order to achieve a service that is ambitious, innovative and responsive to the needs of service users within our care.

You will receive Full Induction Training (including mandatory training), as well as the opportunity to undertake further Personal Skills Training under regular staff supervision. You will complete the Care Certificate within 12 weeks of the start of your employment and are the opportunities for further study are available.
