Can you help us lead change on every front?

The sheer pace and scale of change taking place across our business means there couldn't be a more exciting time to join Group Transformation and help build the best bank for our clients. Can you:-

* Lead, direct and control the delivery of benefits for our clients & colleagues?
* Shape and lead major change initiatives which implement business strategies successfully?
* Engage effectively with a range of partners across the business, understanding their needs & strategy?
* Build, lead, motivate and develop a high performing team?
* Embrace & champion new ways of working?

If so, then you'll never be short of a new challenge.

The Lab Engineering Lead is a transformational leader who works collaboratively with other Lab roles to build empowered Teams that are motivated to tackle business problems and realise value to customers through excellence in execution. The role will work alongside the Lab Product Owner (Lab PO) in shaping the vision for the Lab, and as a result centre on setting the strategic direction for the engineering teams to demonstrate thought leadership on contemporary technical delivery, across the entire lifecycle, from idea to realisation of value.

You'll be accountable for the Run function of software systems that the Lab owns, in terms of incident, problem management and resolution, including 24x7 support. This also includes system risks, software vendor management, route to live and system design. One of your core goals will be to work with Lab Chapters to understand where systems need improvement and work with the Lab PO to prioritise system improvements alongside the delivery of product features. This will often mean communicating the importance of system improvements in business terms so that benefits are clearly realised. You'll be responsible for improving the Lab technical position whilst working and coaching a wide variety of technical Engineering disciplines, including Software Engineers, DevOps and Quality Engineers. You'll also be expected to increase Engineering efficiency, quality and release velocity whilst recruiting, retaining and developing engineering talent by supporting and pioneering Engineering Chapters, Guilds and Community activities.

We'll expect you to foster a "Fail Fast, Learn Faster" mentality within Teams to experiment and test new ways of engineering, to act as a change agent for engineering and team culture, developing a test and learn approach, systems thinking and user experience led design. You'll share knowledge across Chapters and across broader Value Streams via Engineering Communities and Guilds and should drive a culture of learning and continuous improvement influenced by engineering best practice and a clear belief in contributing to InnerSource activities. Ideally you'll also attend and support local technical Meetups whilst understanding the business benefits of leveraging and contributing to Open Source projects. You'll inspire delivery whilst encouraging simplicity and developing confidence and trust.

Skills/Experience

* Strong knowledge of the entire software development lifecycle and experience in end to end delivery of software products
* Significant experience with agile development methods & tooling e.g. Scrum, Kanban, Jira & Confluence, and experience of leading & working as part of an agile team
* Strong software development background essential, along with knowledge of modern software development toolsets including DevOps Continuous Integration, and Delivery
* Have an Engineering background (i.e. you need to have been cutting code professionally in the past), have experience with modern technologies, particularly Cloud (AWS or Azure), DevOps toolchains (e.g. Jenkins, SonarQube, GitHub), test automation (e.g. Selenium, Cucumber) and languages like JavaScript and .NET, as well as legacy platforms, preferable COBOL on Mainframes.

In return, as a multi-brand, multi-channel business, we've the scale and breadth to provide you with a diverse range of personal development and a career that's enriching and full of opportunity. We're committed to building a workforce which reflects the diversity of the customers and communities we serve, and to building an inclusive environment where all our colleagues can be themselves and succeed on merit. We support the principles of agile working and are happy to consider flexible working arrangements. We're an equal opportunity employer and deeply value diversity within our organisation.

Whatever your aspiration, you can also expect excellent benefits, including performance-related bonus, car allowance, private health cover, 30 days holiday (plus bank holidays), share schemes and a generous pension contribution, along with the option to choose an additional cash lump sum or pick from a wide range of industry leading discounted lifestyle, financial and protection benefits.
