NPS Barnsley is a Design and Construction company, part of the Norse Group and a joint venture with Barnsley Council.  Our design team includes architects, quantity surveyors, project managers, mechanical and electrical engineers, structural engineers, H&S and compliance professionals.  Our construction team deals with everything from emergency and day-to-day repairs to significant capital projects.  It is predominantly mechanical and electrical bias, but we also have a general trades team.  For both design and construction we work in all sectors – housing, education, office and retail, leisure – and we now have a diverse client base of over 70 clients across the public and private sector.  We recently embarked on housing development and have completed our first new build for sale scheme of 6 units – all sold off plan.

For Barnsley Council part of the rationale for forming NPS Barnsley was to maintain, create and support jobs and employment in Barnsley; and help the Council achieve its priorities of: ‘A Thriving Barnsley Economy’; ‘People Achieving their Potential’; ‘Strong, Resilient Communities’.  In 7 years we’ve provided job security for our 100 staff and created 23 new posts in the business.  70% of staff live in Barnsley and spend their wages with Barnsley companies.  We spend 50% of our budget with Barnsley companies (supporting local jobs), and we spend c£700K/annum with Barnsley Council (safeguarding jobs).  Altogether we support 166 jobs in Barnsley.  There is so much more we do in the local community and involving schools and charities.  From the joint venture it is a success story.

We will shortly be launching a review of our construction service, which needs to modernise and move with the times incorporating mobile technology and ideas for more agile effective working.  As the Council’s budget and areas of exclusivity decline we also need to expand the client base, and identify new and significant business opportunities for the future.

This is a great opportunity to join the NPS Group as a returner candidate. The ideal candidate would have had a career break of 12+ months. NPS Group welcome a variety of flexible working arrangements so, please come and talk to us if you're interested in working flexibly.
