About the role

Sense are looking for a reliable and motivated person to join our professional team as a Senior Support Worker (Communicator Guide) in Coventry. This is a part time role working 22 hours per week on a fixed term contract until October 2019.

Communicator Guides offer support to people who have developed sight and hearing impairments, often as they get older; you will support the individual to do the things they want to do - not to do things for them. You’ll be there to act as the eyes and ears of the individual – to make sure that communication is clear and that they are able to move around safely. The support you provide may be in someone’s home, their local community or work setting.

You will provide practical help and communication support to people with acquired deafblindness – such as helping with shopping, dealing with mail, accessing social and leisure activities – to enable people with sensory loss to continue to live as independently as possible and decrease isolation.

About you

We would like to hear from you if you have experience of working with vulnerable people, and ideally have experience of working with people with a sensory impairment. A willingness to develop your skills in all communication methods is an essential part of this role. You will need to be able to creatively solve problems that may arise using a person-centred approach and ideally have experience of using person-centred planning tools.

You must be enthusiastic, adaptable and friendly with a commitment to ensuring the individual you work with get the best out of their lives. You must also hold a level two or communicate to an equivalent standard in British Sign Language.

You must be able to work flexible hours to suit the service requirements and have the ability to work on your own initiative.

A full UK driving licence is an essential requirement for this role.
