You’ll make new friends and feel inspired to reach your potential. We’ll ask a lot of you - but you’ll get back so much more. With us, it’s never ‘just a job’.

In return for your hard work and passion we can give you real meaning and purpose in your work.

Job Advert

Working as a Support Worker isn't like any other job. The role of a Support Worker is varied, sometimes challenging but greatly rewarding. It's about giving as little or as much support required by each individual to enable them to achieve the things that are important to them and live life as they choose.

We are opening a new service of 14 flats where we will be supporting people with a learning disability. They will be moving in their own homes and you will be supporting them to live independently as possible. Their support needs will be varied, ranging from a few hours a day, to 1:1 support with complex needs. In addition to this new service we have 10 other established services.

We have opportunities for Support Workers to join our team across Loughborough. If you are looking for permanent, full or part time work, then we would love to hear from you as we have various hours available and might be able to offer you the hours you are looking for. We are also looking for relief staff where hours will be offered as and when required or available.

Working time will be on a rota basis with shifts spread across the weekdays, weekends and bank holidays including mornings, afternoons, evenings and sleep ins. Typical working times for Day Support Workers include but not limited to 7.00 am-14.00, 9.00-16.00, 14.00-22.00 and 22:00 - 07:00.

As part of a team, the successful candidate will be providing support with daily living skills like preparing meals, eating or drinking, personal care, medication or going into the community. The people we support enjoy cooking, shopping, going out for meals, going on day trips, going to see shows and music. So if you are looking for a job where you can make a difference in someone's life and still not feel like you are working then this is the job for you.

* An enhanced DBS will be required for each successful candidate (Paid for by Mencap, T&Cs apply)

Company

Mencap is the leading voice of learning disability. Everything we do is about valuing and supporting people with a learning disability, and their families and carers. We work with people with a learning disability to change laws, challenge prejudice and support them to live their lives as they choose.

As you’ll know, ever since we were founded back in 1946 we’ve been helping to change society for the better, fighting for equality for people with a learning disability.

Our vision

Our vision is a world where people with a learning disability are valued equally, listened to and included. Our challenge, alongside people with a learning disability and their families, is to make this world a reality.

Right now, people with a learning disability face inequalities in every area of life. We need to tackle the issues head on through tireless campaigning and the delivery of high quality support and services to the people who need us.

Our mission

Our mission is to change society’s attitudes, influence people who shape policy and practice, and to empower and directly support more individuals to lead fulfilled lives. Our big plan is divided into five priorities. These are the areas of life we want to have the biggest impact on, the areas where there is the most need to see change for the better.

  1. Raising awareness and changing attitudes
  2. Making a difference to the lives of people with a learning disability here and now
  3. Supporting friendships and relationships
  4. Improving health for people with a learning disability
  5. Giving children the best start in life.
