About the role

Sense are looking for reliable and motivated people to join our professional team as Senior Support Workers (Communicator Guides) across the Hertfordshire area. These roles are based in the community and will involve working various casual hours on a 1:1 basis in the homes and local areas of the individuals being supported. This is a growing service and opportunities for further hours are always available.

You’ll be there to act as the eyes and ears of the individual – to make sure that communication is clear and that they are able to move around safely. As a member of the team, you will need to be resourceful, innovative and confident about working with people in a variety of settings.

About the people that we support

We are recruiting people from areas local to Cheshunt, Waltham Cross, Welwyn Garden City, St Albans, Bricket Wood, Stevenage, Hitchin, Letchwroth and Buntingford. Some of the individuals you might be supporting include:

  • A gentleman, who is a wheelchair user is looking to be supported for 5 hours per week.  He communicates via Deafblind manual and would like to be supported to access his local community, to go for lunch at local restaurants and pubs, and visit local parks.
  • A lady who is funded for 4 hours per week of support in the Stevenage area. She enjoys nothing more than looking round local shops and would also like to be supported to attend a social group.
  • Another gentleman would like to be supported to exercise at his local gym and also take in a show at the theatre. He lives in the St Albans area and would need support for 3 hours per week.
  • A lady who would like support for 4 hours per week in the Welwyn Garden city area. She needs support with daily tasks like written correspondence, accessing her local bank, and shopping. She would also like support to attend day trips with her local hearing and slight impaired social group.

About you

We would like to hear from you if you have experience of working with vulnerable people, and ideally have experience of working with people with a sensory impairment. A willingness to develop your skills in all communication methods is an essential part of this role. You will need to be able to creatively solve problems that may arise using a person-centred approach and ideally have experience of using person-centred planning tools.

A full UK driving licence and use of your own vehicle is an essential requirement for this role.
