What is the purpose of this role?

Responsible for the management and delivery of the Operations Support Services for the Traffic Scotland Operations and Infrastructure Services Contract undertaken from the Traffic Scotland National Control Centre.

Ensuring the Operations Support Services team deliver an effective and efficient day to day Traffic Scotland service to the travelling public.   

The post is based at the Traffic Scotland National Control Centre, South Queensferry, which provides a 24/7x 365 service to plan, monitor, control and inform traffic on the network.

What will this role involve?

  • Supporting the Operations Manager in securing the delivery of the contract requirements for the Operations Support Services with specific emphasis on event and road work planning.
  • Supporting the Control Room Manager in ensuring that control room staff have all necessary information about planned events and the overall response strategies to be implemented. 
  • Ensuring all contract duties undertaken always comply with the Contractor's Management System.
  • Ensuring there is an adequately trained resource pool that can take on event planning and road work planning functions, overall response strategy preparation and other operations service duties at periods of high demand.
  • Establish and maintain a collaborative working relationship with the Operating Company’s journey.
  • Work in partnership with the Traffic Scotland Systems Contractors to ensure any systems management and development issues are being addressed.
  • Preparing presentation, training, and promotional materials to support work winning and customer relationships.

What are we looking for?

  • Minimum HNC in technical, process or business management qualifications or extensive experience in road network operations  
  • Experience in an operations/customer focused business
  • Proven line management experience.
  • Experience in road network operations.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with government Transport agencies is desired
  • Knowledge of ITS systems including urban traffic management and control systems, motorway communication, information systems and CCTV is desired.
