Our client, a care provider based in the Cambridge area is currently looking to recruit a Carer to join their existing team
Job Description
Purpose of Position
* To provide all required support and facilitate fast/same day discharge of service users from hospitals and hospices and enable them to return to their own homes or preferred place of care.
* To work in any area of the business delivering care within Cambridgeshire.
* To share with other staff in meeting the personal care needs of service user in a way that respects the dignity of the individual and promotes independence. Care provided by care assistants is expected to include care that would reasonably be given by members of the service user’s own family and is not expected to include tasks that would normally be expected to be undertaken by a trained nurse.
* To work in shifts 7am-2pm and 4pm – 10pm, at shifts rates and to be flexible and understanding of the fast-paced changes that can occur within the remit of the discharge pathway and care in general.
Principle Responsibilities
* To carry out the full range of personal caring tasks or motivate and oversee the performance of such tasks by users with the importance of maintaining and enhancing independence uppermost. This will include undertaking hands on tasks in relation to clothing, warmth, nutrition, medication and hygiene in accordance with the agreed guidelines.
* Assist service users who need help with dressing, undressing and toileting.
* Assist service user with mobility problems and other physical disabilities including incontinence, assist with use and care of aids and personal equipment.
* Care for service users who are temporarily sick and needing for example bed care.
* Assist with caring for those who are dying.
* Assist in the promotion of mental and physical activity of service user through talking to them, taking them out, sharing with them in activities such as reading, writing, hobbies and other recreations.
* Make and change beds, tidy rooms and do light cleaning, empty commodes.
To provide a personal care service that may include:
* Washing, hair or body
* Brushing teeth or dentures
* Assisting into or out of bed
* Dressing and undressing
* Feeding
* Administering of medicine under local authority guidelines
Any similar activities specified in any agreed Care Plan for a service user.
* To actively participate in the monitoring of wellbeing of service users and to participate with other agencies to ensure that needs such as health, social, emotional, spiritual, recreational, educational and cultural are met.
* To read and write reports, and take part in staff and service users meetings and in training activities as directed
* To actively engage in staff development activities, which will include participating in supervision scheme, staff meetings, attending training events, feeding back to colleagues newly acquired knowledge and skills and giving practical training and guidance to less experienced colleagues.
* To promote a positive attitude towards maintaining service users at home particularly liaising with families, friends and neighbours
* To be accountable by keeping accurate daily records or relevant actions taken. This will be particularly important in relation to financial transactions, medication, tasks undertaken and time.
* To be aware of and adhere to company and local authority policy and agreed practice guidelines
* To report to the Manager any significant changes in health or circumstances of a service user.
* To encourage service users to remain as independent as possible.
* Such other duties as may reasonably be required.
