About the role:

We have created an exciting new position of Head of Economics to provide economic insight and thought leadership on poverty and social security.

Within the role, you will lead economic modelling within JRF, and deliver the data and analytical infrastructure required by JRF for high-quality economic analysis.

Deputising for the Chief Economist as necessary, you will provide leadership and development for the Economics team as a whole. This will include designing and leading a programme of engagement with economic stakeholders, and ensuring that the work of the Economics team meets the highest standards of rigour.

Millions of people are locked in poverty in the UK. We don’t believe that’s right. That’s why we’ve made it our mission to solve it. JRF’s new strategy is to work alongside others to build public and political will for change and demand for solutions.

About you:

We are looking for someone who has several years’ professional experience working as an economist, and of managing economic analysis to develop policy. With an advanced ability to apply economic theory to policy questions, you will also be able to construct a compelling narrative from economic analysis and have significant experience of communicating economic analysis to non-specialists.

A strong interest in UK poverty, social policy, labour markets and housing is needed, as is having a passion to join us in our mission to solve poverty in the UK. A good leader with excellent communication skills, you will have significant experience of independently using data for economic analysis and have experience of using data analysis software to analyse micro data sets.

About us:

The Joseph Rowntree Foundation is a social change organisation with a 100-year history. We are built on trust, show we care, and exist to make a difference.

We work with others to put forward sector-leading research, evidence, solutions and stories to the UK’s influencers and decision-makers.

We believe that a prosperous poverty-free UK is within reach - we just need more people to believe it too.

To make our vision a reality we need talent, ideas, skills and passion, plus we need to change some of what we do and how we do it. So, we’re embarking on a significant period of change - change that will see us become an outcomes-focused organisation that embraces new ways of working and modern practices.

If you share our passion, then we need to hear from you.

Closing date for applications is Tuesday 19 February 2019
