COMMUNITY OFFICER
Akton Recruitment currently has an Opportunity for an Experienced COMMUNITY OFFICER to join the Integrated gang unit within a local Authority in London.
This includes implementation of its statutory Community Safety Plan. This plan aims to reduce the levels of crime, disorder and anti- social behaviour, to improve the quality of life for those who live, work or socialise in the borough in partnership with the local community and other key agencies. The team fulfils the Councils statutory responsibilities relating to the Crime and Disorder Act 1998, as well as the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003 and Police and Justice Act 2006 and other legislation in relation to crime and disorder.
The Integrated Gangs Unit [IGU] has been developed in response to existing and increasing emergence of gang related violence in the borough. It is an integrated team consisting of officers from LB Hackney Council, Metropolitan Police Service, National Probation Service, Department of Work and Pensions alongside commissioned third sector agencies including Safer London and St Giles.
1 FULL TIME 36 HOURS - FLEXIBLE HOURS WHICH WILL INCLUDE SOME EVENINGS AND WEEKENDS
1 PART TIME 18 HOURS - FLEXIBLE HOURS WHICH WILL INCLUDE SOME EVENINGS AND WEEKENDS
PERSONAL SPECIFICATION
* A minimum of two years’ experience of direct work with local communities specifically to address issues of gang involvement
* A satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service [DBS] check at enhanced level is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Evidence of knowledge and delivery of gang reduction initiatives
* Evidence of knowledge and understanding of issues impacting upon gang involvement
* Develop and coordinate initiatives to support and safeguard victims, liaison with case workers and police to gather and analyse intelligence on the changing gangs’ picture
* A sound working knowledge of relevant legislation, policy and guidance including Crime and Disorder Act 1988, Children Act 1989 & 2004, Crime and Policing Act 2006 and 2017, pan London Safeguarding guidance
