We are looking for an exceptional strategic mind who wants to help shape how we use AI to reinvent a $320bn Asset Manager.

The AIG Science team builds AI-first products (apps and services that use machine learning to inform and assist their users) for the investment arm of AIG. This is mainly achieved through:

 

  • Incubation of ideas where scientists, engineers and designers work together to turn them into innovative products
  • Machine learning R&D and publication in top AI/ML conferences and journals
  • Machine-learning advisory / consultancy to AIG's global businesses

We aim to reinvent how AIG creates value both through internal processes and through our offerings to clients.

As a critical role in Science’s success, we are looking to hire an experienced Strategy professional and/or Business Analyst to join our team and contribute to and guide the development of innovative products and delivery of scientific advisory – to stakeholders, both inside and outside AIG.

Responsibilities and Performance Objectives

  • Work closely with our head of Strategy to develop Science’s overall strategic direction as an innovation function as well as the strategic direction of our product portfolio (including AI products for equity, fixed income and other asset classes).
  • Support the end-to-end product development lifecycle: From high-level business case development and opportunity identification, to fine-tuning of assumptions and product valuations pre- and post -launch.
  • Conduct and oversee market, customer and industry research, including market sizing and segmentation, user pain point and customer experience insights, innovation / disruption / new technology trends, financial analysis and forecasting, as well as assessment of data, content, and legal implications on product development.
  • Lead workshops and interviews to capture and document business needs and existing business processes, in order to determine how the Science team can best address those needs.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects and collaborate with various AIG stakeholders to ensure detailed understanding of the requirements, which therefore results in timely and accurate delivery (e.g., collaborate with machine learning scientists in building effective business solutions, or work with business stakeholders to deliver solutions that fulfil their needs).
  • Come up with creative solutions (sometimes drawing from knowledge and experience gained in other industries) to business challenges and translate them into tangible deliverables – from product innovations to rethinking business models. 

Required Attributes: 

  • An advanced degree in business-strategysuch as an MBA or related topic (e.g., Finance, Economics, Marketing, Business Studies), or other degrees with relevant work experience (e.g., at top tier management consulting firms)
  • A good general understanding of and interest in how financial markets work
  • A good general understanding of and interest in digital and disruptive technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to methodically solve complex business problems and communicating those strategies in a compelling manner
  • Excellent presentation skills including the ability to clearly explain complex analyses to various audiences and levels of seniority (including Directors, Executives and Board level)
  • Expert at using Microsoft Office tools for analytical and reporting purposes – using advanced techniques (e.g. Pivot tables, data queries, and complex formulas)
  • Project experience that has generated direct, measurable, financial benefits
  • Work experience in projects that have utilized very large datasets
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work with and influence scientists and engineers, as well as senior business stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills (e.g., explaining technical concepts to a diverse audience groups) with the ability to actively engage others 
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and pragmatically
  • Comfortable and effective in working in teams and on own initiative where required
  • Prepared to take ownership and accountability for deliverables 

An ideal candidate (is not required to, but) will also have

 

  • Experience at a top tier management consulting firm, start-up and/or venture capital firm
  • Experience working with modern software development methods such as Lean and User-Centred  Design
  • Passionate about developing effective and efficient AI and software solutions, as well as a strong interest in digital products and innovation
  • Interest in the insurance business and processes (e.g., asset management, underwriting, claims, risk management and operations)
  • Experience collaborating with diverse teams of global resources to deliver projects
  • Experience in product-related business analytics, with tangible hands-on experience in a product development lifecycle
