Company

YHA is a charity that transforms young lives forever through travel and real adventure.

We provide amazing places to stay and unique opportunities to explore. We fund stays for families and young people facing adversity so that everyone has the chance to gain new confidence, new skills and a new perspective on the world.

Everyone who stays at one of our hostelscabins or campsites contributes to our work as a youth charity. That’s because the income we generate is reinvested back into our network and programmes, enabling us to achieve greater reach and impact on young people with challenging lives.

Everything we do is in the spirit and service of our Charitable Object:

To help all, especially young people of limited means, to a greater knowledge, love and care of the countryside, and appreciation of the cultural values of towns and cities, particularly by providing Youth Hostels or other accommodation for them in their travels, and thus to promote their health, recreation and education.

How we work

Our board of trustees ensure we stay true to our charitable object. YHA has 12 trustees made up of three officers, a chairman, vice chairman and treasurer.

To become a trustee, you must be a YHA member. All members are invited to attend the AGM and vote on the election of new trustees.

The board monitors YHA’s performance and makes decisions on matters of policy. They are also responsible for appointing a chief executive to carry out policies on their behalf.

Our mission

To inspire all, especially young people, to broaden their horizons, gaining knowledge and independence through new experiences of adventure and discovery.

Our vision

To reach out and enhance the lives of all young people, with the goal of reaching more than one million young people every year by 2020.

To achieve our vision, we have developed four strategic themes for 2017-2020:

  1. Developing our world class teams
  2. Delivering a sustainable network of world class hostels
  3. Achieving more reach and impact through funding and partnerships
  4. Putting our customers and members at the heart of everything we do
