Job Details

Are you driven by the desire to make things right for customers and colleagues? Can you see yourself working in a dynamic environment, where we are professional but do not take ourselves too seriously? Are you excited to start or continue your legal career as part of a team that is helping to bring greater competition in banking to the high street.

Our Paralegal will assist and support the General Counsel and wider Metro Bank Legal Team. The role will report into the General Counsel and will play a key part in making sure we continue to create fans by providing amazing service across the bank. You will work closely with  the whole team including providing administrative support, across a variety of daily activities.

So what would you be doing?...

• Assisting the team with research and basic legal queries received in the legal inbox
• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating basic/low-value commercial agreements, non-disclosure agreements and supporting on projects across the bank
• Reviewing customer terms and conditions, as well as documenting and developing your knowledge of regulation that affects the bank
• Working closely with external lawyers and internal teams, such as procurement, compliance, people team, banking operations, property, propositions, lending and securities and lots more
• Taking a lead on matters and engaging colleagues directly
• Supporting the development of standard legal documents and templates
• Facilitating training to other teams on legal topics
• Providing general administrative support, such as the preparation of correspondence and training materials, diary management and filing

You need to be this kind of person…

• Passionate about providing unparalleled levels of service and convenience for customers
• Prepared to stick at something – we get nervous if someone has jumped from job to job
• Able to work and learn quickly in a fast paced, fun and dynamic environment

We always support colleagues to develop their skills.  But to be successful in this job you really do need to already be able to do most of these wonderful things...

• Naturally, you will have excellent administration skills including knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
• In order to really exceed in this role we need you to have completed a  degree in law or a GDL, it will be advantageous if you have completed the LPC
• Previous experience as a paralegal either in-house or in private practice would be super – but this isn’t necessary

IMPORTANT FOOTNOTE;

Diverse teams really are the best teams. We know that candidates (especially women, research tells us) may be put off applying for a job unless they can tick every box.  We also know that ‘normal’ office hours aren’t always doable, and while we can’t accommodate every flexible working request we are happy to be asked.  So if you are excited about working with us and think you can do much of what we are looking for but aren’t sure if you are 100% there yet… why not give it a whirl? Good luck!
