You will be partnering a diverse range of customers, from operatives through to general managers who lead the delivery unit. People can approach you at all times and are relying upon you to give them clear, sound financial advice. Every single day will be different - you will need to be confident in challenging your customers whilst also building trust, whether this is face to face, in meetings or via email.

Your days will include:

  • budgeting
  • forecasting
  • Financial Planning & Analysis
  • compiling and reviewing the management accounting packs

By working on your own initiative, you will control expenditure and provide clear and accurate management information, you can be proud knowing that you are crafting these improvements for our millions of passengers. You will ensure we are offering value for money from suppliers alongside your contracts and procurement colleagues.

Your role as Management Accountant for the Romford Delivery Unit will be working closely with our maintenance teams, across a wide portfolio of disciplines, renewing and improving the railway.

Alongside the dynamic day to day duties you can expect to be mentored and developed by your manager to become the best professional and to advance your career.

The key accountabilities/skills for this role are:

  • Appreciation and working knowledge of accounting principles
  • Preparation of business cases
  • Working alongside the Finance Manager to complete cost estimates and pricing documents
  • providing subject matter expertise and challenge, positioning you as a value adding business partner within the organisation
  • Support the production and submission of quality medium to long term business plans for the DU
  • Production of period end OPEX business reporting, with a firm grasp and appreciation of risks and potential efficiencies
  • Handling accounting activities throughout the period, and ensuring an accurate and complete view of the financial position of the DU is presented on the Balance Sheet

We follow a structured pay framework, any salary offered will be within the following pay range: £32,256 - £36,288 Network Rail is required to align with UK Government standards when carrying out pre-employment checks for all new starters; this includes a basic criminal record check. In accordance with the UK Government we are also required to verify your identity, right to work in the UK and previous three years employment history.
