Mencap have a strategy to ensure that the lives of people with a learning disability are improved; one of our key priorities is around Friendships and Relationships. This includes supporting people with a learning disability to have safer and more fulfilling personal and sexual relationships. We have developed a partnership with the Family Planning Association (FPA), who have experience and expertise in this area, to deliver a Relationship and Sex Education programme to people with a learning disability, their parents and carers and professionals. We are passionate about ensuring that people with a learning disability are provided with the right education and support to ensure their personal and sexual aspirations are understood.
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and confident individual to become our Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) Coordinator to cover maternity leave for 1 year.
This job is a challenging and empowering way to work with people with learning disabilities and their parents and carers to support people to be more informed and empowered to have relationships, and understand their sexuality. This role will be hugely rewarding for those with the commitment to improving the lives of people with a learning disability, and tackling the barriers that many people with learning disabilities face in having relationships.
Your role will be to deliver, in partnership with FPA, a Relationships and Sex Education Programme to people with a learning disability and work with parents, carers, supporters and professionals to embed learning and ensure long term support exists. This project is funded by restricted income for three years and will focus delivery in the Southend and Essex area.
You will be trained by the existing RSE coordinator before she goes on maternity leave and will continue to be supported by an expert from the Family Planning Association (FPA). You will work in partnership with them to deliver and develop workshops providing education and high quality information to a range of stakeholders.
As the project coordinator, you will have a pro-active approach in identifying stakeholders that wish to take part in the programme and will be responsible for the coordination and delivery of the sessions, conducting regular monitoring visits, and managing a small budget, resources and outcomes.
Your role will include delivering sessions in a creative way to a range of stakeholders with varying levels of understanding; therefore, you will need to be an excellent communicator and be able to adapt delivery to meet people’s needs.
You will manage a part time co-trainer with a learning disability, to ensure inclusive delivery of the project.
Your role will be based from home with travel across the Southend and Essex area. Access to a car and a full, clean driver’s license will be required.
You must be available to attend training on 18,19,20 June 2019.
