In one of several critical roles available via this advert, you will enable world-first facilities whilst helping to craft the `Innovation by design` for an organisation that is stretching its remit. We are shifting from a science led mission towards delivering the engineering solutions and technology innovations necessary to transform energy generation in the 21st Century.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
Lead the technical delivery which involves risking, opening boundaries, more porous boundaries in the interests of the project outcomes while cognisant of the purpose of your team in relation to others.
Design Champion linking creativity and innovation to become practical and attractive propositions for users or customers.
Technical Risk Management: Develop design and delivery envelope(s) with an appropriate balance of technical risk between safety, performance, reliability and lifetime. A central tenant of the role is to be the guardian of the technical basis ensuring the integrity is not compromised from inception into delivery.
Processes & Standards: Ensure the engineering is of the appropriate professional standard. Implement effective application of UKAEA engineering processes and standards whilst identifying, on an ongoing basis, opportunities for improvement
Reviews, Inquiries & Lessons Learned: Initiate, lead and deliver technical incident reviews and inquiries for unexpected engineering quality failures with high technical, programmatic or safety impact. Utilise such reviews to highlight and share lessons learned throughout the business.

You?
Ideally you will strengthen and complement our existing team with experience that includes:
-Transformation of engineering practices and behaviours in a large organisation
-Delivery across the plant lifecycle for complex plant in industrial and/or research settings
-Application of industrial regulations, codes, standards and norms with a focus on nuclear and/or process plant
-Track-record working within and leading multi-disciplinary teams with various specialisms (e.g. Operations; Safety Case; Asset Management & Maintenance; Quality Assurance; Safety & Environment)
- Technical Risk Assessment & Management for complex, interacting requirements (Reliability, Safety, Performance, Lifetime, etc)
- Delivery and exploitation of creative engineering solutions to enable research progress and/or technology development
Your education should include an advanced degree (or equivalent experience) in a technical topic such as chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, physics, etc
- You have endorsed your professional progression via membership, or even fellowship, of a recognised professional body. If not, we`ll support this.
Your professional training might include IOSH Managing Safely, quality improvement techniques (e.g. Kaizen, Lean, Six Sigma) or Audit.
The UKAEA hosts and manages the JET nuclear fusion energy experiment on behalf of the EU and is also home to the UK`s MAST-U fusion energy experiment. UKAEA also works with industry and other third parties to develop new technologies currently in Remote Handling and Materials research. Following recent UK funding two new centres of excellence in tritium fuel handling and component testing and validation are being built.
