This is a temporary role with a view to take on the right candidate permanently.

The Payroll & Benefits Officer will report to the Payroll & Benefits Assistant Manager and assist with smooth running and administration of the monthly and pensioner’s payrolls.

The payroll function sits within the Central Services Finance Department.

Key accountabilities:

* Assist with supervision of the team of 3 Payroll and Benefits Assistants and 1 Administration Assistant

* First point of contact for the team’s queries

* Control the Payroll mailbox, ensuring all incoming information is recorded and distributed amongst the team for processing as appropriate

* Weekly upload of all information from HMRC including Tax Codes, Student Loans and RTI advices

* Oversee monthly payroll input by the Payroll team ensuring accurate and timely completion

* Calculate and enter average holiday enhancement for P/T employees

* Check monthly payroll input prior to deadline

* Assist in month end process

* Assist in year-end process

* Review Payroll and Benefits pages on payroll homepage of Intranet, update and amend regularly

* Keep up to date with legislation changes

* Assist in training and development of the Payroll and Benefit team

It is essential that you have previous experience in a similar payroll environment and with proven supervisory level skills. You will also have experience of creating and submitting BACS payment files, be able to complete manual calculations and make emergency payments. Excellent IT and communication skills are a must.
