Exciting Opportunities for Support Workers inHayes

Who you will be supporting

The people you will be supporting love a variety of activities including swimming, shopping, cooking, socialising, going on days out, cinema, college courses, walking, gym, being part of their community and can at times have a hectic schedule. All of the above play a significant part in their life.

Being social and having conversations about things that are of interest and daily life is something they truly value. There is a definite sense of fun in the service and a sense of humour helps in building rapport and good relationships with the people you will be supporting.

In the home, the emphasis is on active support, so working with and not for the people we support, maintaining and developing skills to keep their home environment clean and well maintained.

We support people with a variety of physical, emotional and social needs including mobility, where support with a hoist/ wheelchair is required, intimate personal care and eating and drinking.

The role

Supporting someone with their daily life is not a 9-5 job. You will need to be able to work flexibly full time (37.5 hours per week) or part time (10- 30 hours per week) across a range of different shift patterns, including various day shifts, evenings, weekends and preferably one waking night per week. We realise that your quality time is important too, so your rota will be prepared well in advance - Got a request, something special going on? Your manager will certainly try to help you meet it.

You must be able to demonstrate a real commitment to Mencap and the work that we do alongside the wonderful people we support. We are looking for people with a `can-do` attitude who are strongly motivated, outgoing, caring and have a calm demeanour when needed

If you are interested in the role and feel that you are a dynamic and enthusiastic person who also has empathy and patience, then please apply. As long as you have a positive attitude and want to improve the lives of those with a learning disability, we will support you with progression opportunities throughout your career with us.

At Mencap we recognise and acknowledge our employee`s achievements. How we do this is through `You Rock` which is our way to say thanks and well done to colleagues and volunteers. Our people that demonstrate going far and above have the chance to be rewarded through a You Rock `Treat` Our training is awarding winning. We are recognised as a `Centre of Excellence` by Skills for Care. This means that we have demonstrated exemplary learning and development provision, exhibited innovation and continual development. To achieve this, we had to be able to prove that we have delivered high quality improvement to the services we work with. We also show full commitment to the Leadership Qualities Framework. This means that our training clearly helps to develop the attitudes and behaviours needed for high quality leadership at all levels across the social care workforce.

Developing our employees is important to us and through `Shape your future` (what we call our performance appraisal framework) we are able to understand how each individual employee efforts help us all achieve our goal of making a difference to the lives of people with a learning disability. This is done by managers and their team members having meaningful conversations about their day to day job, how they are contributing towards our goals and most importantly, how they demonstrate the values that are so important in everything we do.

We believe that our people are amazing and we wouldn't be able to achieve what we do without them. Any colleague rated as Excellent in their Shape Your Future performance review will be eligible to apply to our `You`ve Got Talent` (YGT) program.

YGT is the name of our talent programme which provides opportunities for our people to develop themselves and their career. If you are accepted onto YGT you will have the chance to join a working project that is connected to one of priority areas for our strategic plan, you will be assigned a management mentor, join our leadership training programme or may be offered a bursary to undertake some additional training.
