Challenge Events Fundraiser

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience working on challenge or community events to join a small team delivering a range of bespoke challenges and special events.

Our client is a national charity that inspires people affected by spinal cord injury to get the most out of life. Every four hours in the UK, someone will sustain a spinal cord injury and become paralysed. Their life and the lives of those around them will be changed forever – this organisation exists to help people pick up the pieces and get things back on track again

Role: Events and Challenge Fundraiser

Location: Wandsworth, London

Salary: £23,500-£26,000, depending on experience

Hours: Full time

About the Role

The role of is Events and Challenge Fundraiser is hands-on – you’ll be responsible for the following:

  • Recruit, manage and support participants for all Back Up’s organised challenge events
  • Recruit, manage and support participants for Back Up’s places in third party events
  • Recruit, support, develop and inspire volunteers supporting challenge fundraising in line with our volunteering policy
  • Work closely with the finance department to ensure robust and timely systems to process and thank supporters quickly and accurately
  • Maintain and develop relationships with key service providers
  • Build relationships within the spinal cord injury community with the aim of building positive donor engagement/partnership to support community fundraising

Operational and Strategic Management

  • Support the Events and Challenge Manager to develop an annual plan for challenge fundraising, including setting KPIs to increase income and reach a broader pool of supporters
  • Drive creative communication plans (including on-line and social media) to raise the profile of Back Up to reach new and existing audiences and support recruitment of our events and activities
  • Maximise recruitment opportunities from our major events’ corporate connections
  • Be pro-active in identifying and developing existing and new challenge fundraising opportunities
  • Ensure accurate records of all interaction with challenge fundraisers and volunteers are kept on the database
  • Administer challenge fundraising correspondence including responding to telephone and email enquiries and thanking fundraisers
  • Achieve aims, targets and milestones in line with the business plan
  • Monitoring, measurement and evaluation of community events to ensure KPIs are on track and agreed ROI is being reached
  • Report regularly to Events manager and when necessary Head of Fundraising
  • Effectively manage risk and keep up to date with fundraising practices and standards
  • Other duties as required by the Events Manager

About you:

As ou must fulfil the following essential criteria.

•             Challenge fundraising experience as part of a fundraising team

•             Excellent people management and interpersonal skills; a real people person able to connect with and engage a very wide range of people

•             Experience of inspiring and motivating fundraisers

•             Setting targets and meeting or exceeding them

•             Being highly organised. Able to plan, balance and cope with competing priorities

•             Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills

•             Highly computer literate and a competent user of charity fundraising databases

•             Experience of updating website pages and other online media

•             A commitment to quality with an eye for detail

•             Strong team working orientation; collaborative, flexible and supportive

•             A creative and proactive approach to all areas of work

•             Willing and able to work occasional evenings and weekends and to travel
