Could you help some amazing people to communicate, express themselves and connect with the world?

About the role

Sense has a great opportunity for passionate and dedicated individuals to join our team as Specialist Support Workers in Barnet, London. We have a number of flexible, permanent, part time roles available working from 7 - 30 hours per week. Both day and night shift patterns are available. We also have a Fixed Term position until June 2020 available.

At Barnet Residential services we support adults over the age of eighteen who have a range of complex needs, including sensory loss and learning disabilities. We’re looking for caring people who have the empathy and patience to positively focus on the people we support. You will be supporting the people who live here to participate in a full and active life at home and in the local community. This will include everything from basic domestic tasks such as laundry and shopping, to exciting activities like swimming, gardening, cooking, music, art and other things that the people we support enjoy. You will also provide varying levels of support with personal care tasks.

We also have casual (bank) opportunities in this area attracting an hourly rate of £9.79.

About you

Sense is known for our excellent training and development, so for some vacancies, previous personal care experience is not needed. However, you do need to have empathy and be enthusiastic, patient, compassionate and caring so that you can positively interact with the people we support.

Support Worker posts require excellent communication, and team working skills, literacy and an awareness of disability needs. It is desirable that you are able to swim and support people in the water and hold a valid UK drivers licence to support users on day trips and community activities.

Flexibility is needed as working times do vary and may include evenings, weekends and sleep-ins.

About us

For everyone living with complex disabilities. For everyone who is deafblind. Sense is here to help people communicate and experience the world.

We believe that no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, should be isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential.

Sense has a proven record of offering high quality, pioneering services.

Working as a Support Worker at Sense can be incredibly rewarding; we offer the opportunity to work in a large, diverse and successful charity where people can develop their skills, knowledge and careers in a supportive and flexible environment. In addition, we have excellent training and development, the opportunity for you to join our Group Personal Pension scheme and a generous annual leave entitlement.

Our selection process aims to make sure that the role is right for you and you are right for us. It involves completing an online application form, taking part in a value based interview/assessment process and visiting one of our services.
