Once Britain's Best-Kept Secret, Bletchley Park, is a unique heritage site and vibrant tourist attraction and is now seeking a part-time Gatehouse Officer based in Bletchley, Milton Keynes to join its expanding team. Our mission is to preserve and enhance Bletchley Park, to attract, engage and educate visitors from all over the world through the continuing restoration and development of the entire estate and our exhibitions. Our mission is to highlight the codebreaking achievements of Bletchley Park in the Second World War, its role as a birthplace of computing and its importance for understanding the past and relevance for the future.

As a Gatehouse Officer your duties will include:

• Providing a courteous welcome to all visitors to the Park and understanding the needs of all visitors to the Park, and their associated entry requirements and direct those visitors in accordance with current practices.
• Ensuring that the traffic flow at the entry to the Park is managed in a controlled and coordinated manner to avoid unnecessary delays, hold-ups or queues.
• Immediately report any suspicious or security threatening circumstances to the Duty Manager or higher respond immediately to any emergency requests, calling the emergency services as necessary and expediting their quick arrival to the required location.
• Logging, receiving and distributing mail for both Bletchley Park and the Trust and reporting suspicious-looking packages in accordance with company procedures.
• Managing courier vehicles arriving on site and operate an electric vehicle around the site, with a view to minimising visitor disruption.
• Issuing, recording and maintaining security and car parking passes, in accordance with current practice.
• Welcoming and announcing visitors of the Trust.
• Maintaining contractor registers.
• Managing the key holding requirements of the Porters Lodge.

To be a successful Gatehouse Officer you will have the following skills and experience:

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to remember names, faces and locations.
• Courteous and helpful with a customer focussed outlook.
• Self-control and the ability to maintain composure, to be able to avoid aggressive behaviour even in very difficult circumstances.
• Able to undertake manual duties and lift and carry heavy items.
• Ability to listen and convey information effectively.
• Reliable, conscientious, honest and dependable.
• Self-motivated and able to prioritise and manage workloads to meet deadlines and willingness to take on responsibilities/challenges.
• Good clear written skills and an ability to decipher poor handwriting quickly.
• Methodical and organised and proficient in Microsoft Office and Outlook.
• Physically fit and able to stand outdoors for long periods of time.
• Ability to work without supervision but also as part of a team.

The following are desirable, but not essential as full training will be given:

• Experience of security, entry procedures and relevant health and safety issues.
• Experience of mail procedures and customer service environments.
• Full clean driving licence.
• First aid at work qualification.

As the Gatehouse Officer you will be required to work 2 days per week, Monday and Tuesday, 3.00pm – 11.00pm with a ½ hour break. Occasionally extra hours will be required, and these will be paid at the basic rate. This is a uniformed post and a smart appearance is required. Most of the work will be based outdoors.

In return, the Gatehouse Officer will receive a salary of £7410.00 - £8143.20 per annum (FTE £18,525 - £20,358).
