Are you looking for your next opportunity in Project Engineering? Are you an experienced project engineer, or an engineer looking to move in project management?

The Team

Within the Engineering and Consulting business we provide services across a wide range of disciplines and applications in the oil and gas and offshore wind markets covering fixed and floating offshore structures, terminals, refineries, petrochemical plants and pipelines. Atkins has worked on over 1,000 oil and gas installations with substantial involvement in overseas projects. We work on some of the most exciting and varied projects in the offshore oil and gas and offshore renewable sectors, including process optimisation, integrity management, concept studies, detailed design and offshore repairs.

The Role

We are looking for a project engineer to work closely with different teams and projects, who is adaptable to a diverse work load and is able to tailor the way they operate to best suit that particular project team. Working with the support of the team you will develop your project management skills across project controls, commercial management and technical delivery, positioning yourself as a future leader within our business.

You will have experience and/or knowledge of the complete project lifecycle. You’ll have direct experience of applying a range of project management principles and skills to deliver successful project outcomes, with specific examples of supporting the management of complex technical challenges, and responsibility for the monitoring and control of quality, time, cost and technical performance of engineering projects.

With an ambitious drive to get the best from our technical teams, delight the client and optimise project reporting, this role could be for you.

Responsibilities

  • Delivery of project to agreed brief, scope and budgets.
  • Monitoring and reporting performance against schedule, technical quality, financial and other Key Performance Indicators.
  • Establishing project documentation and schedules and ensuring that there is a common understanding across the team and that the team itself is appropriately resourced.
  • Leading the project team – motivating, guiding, managing communication, and ensuring clear responsibilities within the team.
  • Managing client and stakeholder relationships.
  • Managing financial, commercial and risk management from project inception through to completion on projects including implementation of robust change control processes.
  • Support to bidding for new work may also be a key part of the role, as appropriate.

The Person

With excellent communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills, you will be able to positively and proactively build relationships and collaborate effectively with the project team and our clients, and to lead and manage delivery under tight deadlines.

You are organised, able to prioritise under pressure and take personal responsibility in achieving your best and the best for our clients. You are comfortable and adaptable to working in new and changing environments and working as part of a virtual team with colleagues in remote offices. You have good attention to detail, anticipate and respond to potential problems, and use your own initiative to improve ways of working.

You have a strong background in project work and the following skills and experience:

  • A recognised diploma or degree in a technical subject or qualified by experience
  • Experience of working in multi-disciplinary engineering teams
  • An understanding of risk management and commercial awareness
  • A flexible approach to being office or site based according to the needs of the business and client
  • Effective client interface skills and experience with the ability to offer both strategic and project advice
  • Experience or knowledge of resourcing, progress measurement, earned value analysis, and status reporting would be highly beneficial
  • IT skills are necessary, with experience in planning and scheduling in MS Project or Primavera P6 desirable but not essential

ATKINS, part of the SNC Lavalin Group, is committed to having a diverse and inclusive workforce. As an Equal Opportunities Employer, we value applications from all backgrounds, cultures and ability.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance.  If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.

If applying to this role please do not make reference to (in conversation) or include in your application or CV,  details of any current or previously held security clearance.

Company

Atkins is a multinational engineering and design consultancy, providing expertise to help resolve complex challenges presented by the built and natural environment. Whether its the concept for a new skyscraper, the upgrade of a rail network, the modelling of a flood defence system or the improvement of a management process, we plan, design and enable solutions.

If you weren’t aware of what we do, it’s probably because our talents tend to remain hidden. Rather than shouting about our achievements ourselves, we prefer to let them be appreciated by other people – as happened recently when we were named by the Times as one of the Top 50 Employers for Women 2013.We are doing much to overcome the perception that engineering is a man’s world. Our stated aim is that one third of our company board will be female by 2015. By the same time, women should make up more than 20% of our senior staff.
