The Organisation 

Our client is an educational institution that boasts a rich history and first-rate academic record. They are currently looking for a number of Classroom Assistants to join them, working 25 hours per week on a contract. These posts will continue for as long as the pupils require classroom assistance and for as long funding is providing for these positions.

The Role 

As a Classroom Assistant, you will provide support to pupils with special educational needs, as well as providing general classroom assistance.

In this important role, you will: 

- Assist the teachers with the support and care of pupils with special educational needs e.g. enable access to the curriculum
- Develop an understanding of the specific needs of the pupils to be supported
- Assist with authorised programmes (e.g. Education Plan, Care Plan), participate in the evaluation of the support and encourage pupil participation in such programmes
- Contribute to the inclusion of the pupils in mainstream schools under the directions of the class teachers
- Support in implementing behavioural management programmes as directed
- Assist pupils in moving around school and on and off transport

You will also provide general assistance within the classroom context and will be aware of school policies and procedures. Administrative tasks will include assisting teachers with recording progress and providing feedback on pupils.

About You 

To be considered as a Classroom Assistant, you’ll need:

Essential Criteria:

- Experience of working with children of secondary school age 
- An NVQ Level 2 qualification in Childcare or similar 
- At least five GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C or above, including English

Desirable Criteria:

An NVQ Level 3 in Childcare or other relevant Childcare qualification would be beneficial. Relevant experience of working in a school environment with secondary school age children is also desirable, as is experience in working with children with special educational needs.

Please note, if a high number of applications are received, candidates in possession of desirable criteria will be looked upon more favourably than those without.

Other organisations may call this role Classroom Assistant, Teaching Assistant, TA, Learning Support Assistant, Learning Support Advisor or Classroom Support Assistant.

The closing date for this role is 7th August 2019. Interviews are planned for 13th August 2019.

These are 52 week posts, with 8 weeks’ annual holiday (pro rata) to be taken outside of term time.

The successful applicant will require an enhanced disclosure check, which at present costs £33.
