A day in the life of a lecturer in art, design and media

You will be located in a purpose built teaching environment, your office is adjacent to a large open studio area and this in turn provides access to a number of additional spaces designed for specialist study.

A typical day would include the registering of learners and ensuring they are prepared for the day. A 1-hour tutorial per week based around college set themes is conducted by tutors. This is followed by a combination of taught sessions and free running workshops, where you will be expected to facilitate learning on a more individual basis with learners. You will be expected to track the progress of your learners and to feed this back to weekly team meetings. You will meet at least once every two weeks with your curriculum manager to ensure you are settling in and have an opportunity to feed back on any concerns.

Skills/experience required:

As a Lecturer in Art, Design & Media you will be specialising within one or more of the following subject areas: Sculpture/3D, Graphic Design, Time Based Media or Fashion & Textiles. You will be comfortable in the use of Microsoft office products and be generally competent in the use of IT resources.

Experience of modern and effective working practices is essential and the training of learners in an educational environment would be an advantage.

Qualifications required:

A BA (Hons) Degree in an Art or Design discipline is required and an MA beneficial. Ideally you will hold a teaching qualification (Cert Ed, PGCE or equivalent), however full training can be offered to achieve qualified teacher status. English Language and Mathematics at level 2 (equivalent) or above is required.

Ideal attributes of applicant:

You should also have a broad knowledge of general visual processes and knowledge of art history and theory relevant to your specialism. This post will require you to work for the college in a dynamic creative studio environment.

Any other info.

Currently the working week is Mon, Tue and Wed from 8:30am to 5pm but may change dependent upon learner enrolment.
