We are looking to recruit an experienced HR Business Partner who has the skills & passion to support the HR department in shaping and driving the strategic direction of the people agenda within the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, to join our team by working collaboratively with those involved. 

Your key responsibilities will include: 

• Working with MCA Senior Leaders to deliver their business objectives by ensuring they have HR interventions and strategies in place to improve organisational performance, capability and skills to create a high-performance workplace, ensuring full consideration is given to people issues (e.g. TUPE, Organisation Design and Development, Trade Union Consultation, redeployment) and compliance with legal requirements. 

• Coach and support managers to improve their leadership and capability to manage performance effectively. 

• Collaborating with the business to fully understand the key business performance issues, objectives and drivers, and associated people requirements for both the current and future business challenges in order to develop a business-focused people plan which supports the delivery of business objectives.

We’re looking for an experienced HR Business Partner who not only has working knowledge of HR policies and procedures but someone who is passionate about designing, analysing and implementing positive change within the organisation. 

We are looking to speak with individuals who have experience of working collaboratively and actively business partnering with departments to analyse and advise the leadership team on strategic business decisions relating to the people agenda of the organisation. 

You’ll be confident applying your HR knowledge to set your own direction, influence decisions and thrive whilst managing a dynamic and challenging workload, welcoming a level of autonomy to your role. 

You’ll have exceptional interpersonal skills and be able to communicate complex information to others, with the capability to provide guidance and information to inform decisions at all levels of the business. 

For this role, it’s essential to be able to proactively manage your workload whilst retaining focus on the key priorities of the department.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is an executive agency of the United Kingdom working to prevent the loss of lives at sea and is responsible for implementing British and international maritime law and safety policy. It is also responsible for land based search and rescue helicopter operations from 2015.

Its responsibilities include coordinating search and rescue (SAR) on the coastline and at sea through His Majesty's Coastguard (HMCG), ensuring that ships meet international and UK safety standards, monitoring and preventing coastal water pollution and testing and issuing Merchant Navy Certificates of Competency (licences) for ships' officers and crew to STCW requirements The organisation is led by Virginia McVea, its Chief Executive, who took up post in February 2023.The MCA are chiefly responsible for the syllabus and national training standards issued by the Merchant Navy Training Board (based at the UK Chamber of Shipping).
