Mental Health Support Workers required for a leading adolescent psychiatric service in South East London.
We have full time, part time and flexible ad-hoc shifts available for the right candidate.

- Flexibile shifts to suit you, including days, weekends and nights.

- Long 12hr shifts - days or nights.

You will work on a shift basis, between 10 to 40+ hours per week, depending on your availability.

ROLE SUMMARY

Support Workers assist Registered nursing staff to provide individualised, quality care to patients.

You will play a key role in the motivation of patients and in participating in patients’ treatment plans and activities.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
•Help to maintain high standard of individual patient care and rehabilitation.
•Receive and act upon handovers, reports and instructions.
•Take all possible precautions to safeguard the welfare and safety of staff, patients, visitors and the public by implementing all policies and procedures.
•Help provide a safe, clean, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and raise necessary warnings whenever a hazardous situation is discovered.
•Report accidents and untoward incidents to patients, visitors or staff.
•Be aware of the psychological, social, physical and spiritual needs of all patients.
•Through observation, monitor and inform nursing staff of any changes in patients’ physical/psychological condition, or other significant factors.
•Be able to function as a competent member of the team at all times, including challenging situations.
•Escort patients under the direction of the Nurse in Charge.
•Be courteous and helpful to patients and their families.
•Notify Team Leader of special needs and problems in the unit.
•Attend meetings as required on the unit.
•Ensure patient/staff confidentiality is maintained at all times.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

We are keen to hear from people with the following:

Essential:

- 12 months previous employment within a social care role.

- Mandatory care training.

- Able to work 12 hour shifts (daytime or "waking night" shifts).

- Able to work flexibly, often at short notice.

- Reliable, punctual and well organised.

- Able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

- Professional manner, with strong communication skills and neat handwriting

- Physically fit and healthy, fully mobile, able to engage in physical restraint.

- Ability to take on board instructions and follow procedures.

- Knowledge of confidentiality requirements.

- Resilient nature, prepared to deal with difficult situations, while recognising limitations.

- Strong awareness of health & safety and risk management.

- Stable personality, with a mature disposition.

Ideally:

- Experience working within a relevant mental health setting (secure / forensic) and / or supporting clients with mental health issues.

- NVQ / QCF level 2 / 3 qualification in Health & Social Care.

- Training in control & restraint / physical intervention for secure mental health settings.

- Training and / or knowledge of the Mental Health Act and specifically its implications for the treatment and detainment of individuals.
